Summary: The coastal region of Espírito Santo is an area of great fishing potential and an important source of food and income for several fishing communities, generating a complex and diversified fishing productive chain with potential and obstacles influenced by various social, economic and environmental factors. environmental impacts.
The objective of this study was to identify and analyze the distribution of the institutions involved in the fishery chain in the Espírito Santo coast, correlating the data with other studies of the fishing industry in the region to define the variables of the productive chain in the North, Central and South state.
Data from this study were acquired from the Socioeconomic Diagnostic Project of the Fisheries Communities of the Espírito Santo Basin and Northern Portion of the Campos Basin (SociopESca). The database was generated through the information acquired in the questionnaires applied in 14 municipalities of the coastal region of the state.
Initially, an analysis was made of the structure of the production chain to identify, characterize and function the actors, links and segments involved, and to analyze the main flows of product distribution.
After the initial characterization, an integrated analysis of the data of the productive chain was made, through correlations and definition of variables to identify the potentialities of each region of the state.
The results presented strong differences between the North, Center and South regions, and some similarities between municipalities in different regions, highlighting the South Region with high fishing production and strong problems in the support and commercialization segments, thus reducing the potential of the region. The Center Region presented better potential due to a better balance between the production, support and commercialization sectors. The North Region had the lowest potential due to the precariousness of all the segments.
This study will enable a better understanding of the dynamics of the fishing productive chain in the state, enabling the development of public policies directed to each locality, increasing efficiency and contributing to the recovery of this important sector.
